CSD teacher search continues online, recruitment travel temporarily cancelled

Over the next several weeks, Canyons District recruiters had planned to visit recruiting fairs across Utah and from Pennsylvania to Oregon in search of the best teachers for our students. As a District that is heeding recommendations from Utah health officials to take steps to prevent the spread of COVID19, our participation in those events has been cancelled. However, Canyons has many online resources available for teachers who’d like to know more about who we are. We know you could teach anywhere. During this time of travel interruption, why not take the time to find out if Canyons School District is right for you from the comfort of your own home? If school community, salary benefits and quality of life are important to you, we think we could be the perfect fit. Located in the southeast corner of the Salt Lake Valley, with a beautiful mountain backdrop of pine forests, sparkling snow and hiking trails aplenty, Canyons serves students in Cottonwood Heights, Draper, Midvale and Sandy. We’re within reach of 11 ski resorts and five national parks, but outstanding recreation opportunities aren’t the only reason we think you’ll love it here. Canyons’ starting salary is $50,000 for a bachelor’s degree and $54,500 for a master’s degree, and we offer a variety of supports, including an academic coach in every building. Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
