CSD Class of 2012 Received $17 Million In Scholarship Offers

All four of Canyons District's traditional high schools held commencement ceremonies on Tuesday, June 5. Brighton, Hillcrest and Jordan high schools held graduation rites at the Maverik Center in West Valley. Alta High held exercises at the UCCU Events Center at Utah Valley University. South Park, Canyons District’s school at the Utah State Prison, handed out diplomas on Wednesday, June 13. Entrada, Canyons' adult high school, saw men and women graduate in May.
 
In all, here's the estimated number of graduates:
  • Alta — 715
  • Brighton — 565
  • Hillcrest — 385
  • Jordan — 545
  • Entrada — 86
  • South Park — 364
In addition, the Canyons Class of 2012 secured $17 million in scholarship offers. Here’s a glimpse of where the money went:
  • $5.7 million — Brighton’s scholarship total
  • $5.6 million — Hillcrest’s scholarship total
  • $2.94 million — Jordan’s scholarship total
  • $2.8 million — Alta’s scholarship total
  • $400,000 — Largest single scholarship, extended by the United States Military Academy at West Point to Hillcrest grad Bryce Magera
  • $522,000 — Highest scholarship total, secured by Hillcrest grad Kasaundra Amann. The courting colleges: Cornell, Dartmouth, Wellesley, University of Utah, Brigham Young University. Other scholarship awards: Utah Scholar, Elk’s Foundation Most Valuable Student
  • 37 percent — Increase in the number of Brighton students receiving the Regents Scholarship this year
