Two Canyons School District students won $1,000 college scholarships in an essay contest sponsored by the creative writing club of a Sandy senior living center. Seniors Brynn Wistisen, Alta High School, and Ishma Singh, Jordan High School, have each won a scholarship in a National Women's History Month essay contest sponsored by the writing club at Atria, 10970 S. 700 East, Sandy. There's No Place Like Jordan Valley's 'Oz'

Jordan Valley, Canyons District’s school for severely disabled students, this week performed a show with real heart.  And brains.  And courage. Jordan Valley students, faculty and staff have been working for about two months on a version of “The Wizard of Oz,” which has been adapted to the special needs of the students at the school. Students involved in Hillcrest High School’s Latinos in Action program will be highlighted at a cultural performance on Friday at Utah Valley University. The students will perform at 11:55 a.m. on Friday, March 26, at UVU’s Sorensen Student Center Grand Ballroom as part of the statewide Latinos in Action Conference. Latinos in Action is a peer-tutoring program aimed at providing role models to younger children and inspiring Latinos to become educators. It was featured on KSL-TV Channel 5 this week. Canyons School District is accepting applications for first-graders to enter seven Dual-Immersion programs, three of which will debut in the District this coming fall.Dual-Immersion, offered in partnership with the State Office of Education, offers students instruction in a target language, including in the subjects of math, science and social studies, for at least 50 percent of the school day.
