real_banner

Canyons School District and Real Salt Lake are pleased to announce “Canyons Night at Rio Tinto,” a celebration of students, educators, community, and the culmination of the inaugural year of Utah’s newest school district.

The event will take place at the Saturday, May 1, Real Salt Lake game. Canyons students will perform at the Carnival Stage outside the stadium for a special pre-game talent showcase. “Canyons Idol” winner Eric Michels will sing the National Anthem inside the stadium at the game’s beginning. At halftime, thousands of fans will salute Canyons Teachers of the Year from each of the District’s 44 schools, in addition to a District Teacher of the Year, Administrator of the Year, Educational Support Professional of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, and District Office Administrator of the Year. Each of the honored individuals will receive free tickets for themselves and a guest, courtesy of Real Salt Lake, in appreciation of their service to students and the larger community. At the end of the game, students will be able to go onto the field and take pictures.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
