Uncle Sam wants Simi to play football.
Simi Fehoko, the standout football player at Brighton High, on Tuesday, Nov. 24 will receive his official invitation to play in the 2016 U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 9 in the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
Representatives from the U.S. Army will be at a 9:15 a.m. assembly in the gymnasium to pass along the invitation and present him with his game-day jersey. Only the country’s best 90 players are selected for the game, which is billed each year as the classic east-vs-west matchup.Â
Fehoko is the third Bengal since Canyons District’s inception in 2009 to be selected as a U.S. Army All-American. Former Brighton stars Ricky Heimuli and Osa Masina were chosen for the 2010 and 2015 Army Bowls, respectively.Â
Fehoko, who has committed to Stanford, also stands to snag another high-profile honor at the prestigious gridiron contest. He’s been listed on a 16-player roster of the identified candidates for Player of the Year. The honor will be award to the year’s No. 1 player during the nationally televised game.Â
At next week’s jersey presentation, Brighton High also will be introduced as a Super Bowl Honor Community. The Bengals have received the designation as a result of being the alma mater of former NFL player (and current Bengal coach) Reno Mahe, who made an appearance in the Super Bowl as a Philadelphia Eagle.
In anticipation of the Super Bowl’s golden anniversary, the NFL is paying tribute to the schools where players and coaches got their starts.
Brighton will receive a commemorative golden football, NFL Character Education Curriculum, and become eligible to apply for NFL Foundation grants to help support the football program. âª
