The refrains of such famous songs as “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “I Dreamed a Dream” are being heard in auditoriums throughout the District as high school casts rehearse for upcoming musical-theater productions.

This week, curtains will open on the first of the ambitious, award-winning, and much-loved Broadway blockbusters that are being produced by Canyons District’s five high schools. 

Brighton High’s “Wizard of Oz,” based on the 1939 movie about a magical trip down a Yellow Brick Road, will be Nov. 6-8, 10 at 7 p.m.  A matinee also will be performed Nov. 8 at 1 p.m.  Cost is $5.50 to $8.50.  Tickets can be purchased online.

Alta High’s “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” a tale about a window washer’s ascent in the business world, will be Nov. 20-22 and Nov. 24 at 7 p.m. Cost is $8.25 to $15.  Tickets can be purchased online.

Corner Canyon High’s “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” a Tony Award-nominated musical by the infamous Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice, will be Nov. 20-22 and Nov. 24 at 7 p.m. Cost is $8.  Tickets can be purchased online.

Jordan High‘s “Les Miserables,” the classic story of Jean Valjean and Inspector Javert, will be Nov. 20-22 and Nov. 24, 7 p.m.

Hillcrest High’s “In the Heights,” the Tony Award-winning musical about a vibrant community in New York’s Washington Heights, will be Nov. 20-22 and Nov. 24 at 7 p.m. This will be the first time the show is produced by a Utah high school theater department.
