Curtains To Rise On CSD High School Musicals

Seeking some family-friendly entertainment that won’t bust your pocketbook? Look no further than the musicals produced by Canyons District’s high schools.
 
Brighton High’s “Oklahoma!” will be Nov. 7-9 at 7 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee on Nov. 9.  The show, written by the legendary Rogers and Hammerstein, also will be performed Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale online. Cost is $5.50 for students and $8.50 for the general public.
 
Corner Canyon High’s first-ever musical is “Seussical the Musical,” which is based on the infamous madcap stories of Dr. Seuss.  Students will perform Nov. 21-25 at 7 p.m. Cost is $8.50 in advance online and $10 at the door. Tickets are on sale online.
 
Hillcrest High is presenting “The Wiz,” an urbanized re-telling of the “Wizard of Oz.”  The shows will be Nov. Nov. 21-23 and Nov. 25. Shows are at 7 p.m. Cost is $8 in advance and $10 at the door.
 
Alta High’s “Peter Pan,” a musical based on the classic tale by J.M. Barrie, will be Dec. 12-14 and Dec. 16 at 7 p.m.  A 2 p.m. matinee will be Dec. 14. Cost is $8.25 in advance or $9 at the box office the nights of the show. Tickets will be available in the school’s main office and online.
 
Jordan High is producing “Fiddler on the Roof,” the first Broadway musical to surpass 3,000 performances. The shows will be held Feb. 20-24 at 7 p.m. Tickets will be $6.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
