CSD Employees, Sandy Students Can Get Fit With City Program

Sandy City invites all Canyons District employees and students in Sandy schools to participate in Healthy Sandy’s 5th annual “Slim Down/Shape Up” weight-loss, health and fitness program.

The aim of the effort is to help families get in shape and learn more about nutrition and fitness. Event organizers say that for every pound lost by program participants from April 2 to June 11 a donation will be made to promote fitness in Sandy youth.

Flyers about the program are going home with all Sandy elementary school students.

A registration and weigh-in event – just for Canyons District employees – will be 2 to 5 p.m. March 21 in the west conference room (No. 205) of the Canyons Support Services Center, 9361 S. 300 East.

Go to www.slimdownSandy.org for information on scheduled health lectures, health assessments, and adult and child health challenges.

Lucie Chamberlain

Alta View Elementary

If a movie about super teachers were ever made, Lucie Chamberlain would be a prime candidate for a leading role. Fortunately for her kindergarten students at Alta View Elementary, she already thrives in a supporting role for them. Parents thank her for being a “super teacher.” She is also described as an “amazing colleague.” Whether students need help in the classroom or from home while sick, Lucie goes above and beyond to help them learn, overcome fears, and feel important and cared for. Lucie is the reason a number of kids went from hating school to loving it, according to parents. The way she exudes patience, sweetness, positive energy, and love for her students with special needs melts is appreciated and admired. One parent noted: “Both my kids wish she could be their teacher forever.” Another added:  “She treats every student like their learning and their feelings are her priority.” Super teacher, indeed!
