From initial site work to a completed seismic upgrade, Canyons School District is making fast progress on the first five projects funded by proceeds of the $250 million bond voters approved in 2010. Here are a few details from Facilities Director Rick Conger's presentation to the Board of Education on Aug. 16, 2011:
Sandy Elementary: Following a tight, three-month turnaround, an extensive seismic upgrade to Sandy Elementary School has been completed. Sandy Elementary was ready to welcome students back to school on Aug. 22.

Butler Middle School: A groundbreaking ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8. In preparation for the event, site and utilities work have begun on the new school’s footprint, adjacent to the current building, and construction bids are under final review.
Albion Middle School: The demolition portion of the school renovation is complete, and a new roof is to be completed by late fall. Albion students started the 2011-2012 school year at Cottonwood Heights Elementary on Monday, Aug. 22.

All Albion students will receive busing services in the 2011-2012 school year to accommodate students' relocation to Cottonwood Heights Elementary School.
Busing will not change for students currently using the service.
Students who have not received busing services prior to the 2011-2012 school year will be assigned to a bus stop and carpool loading and unloading site. Designated sites include Albion Middle School (Newcastle Drive site), and Brookwood, Silver Mesa and Granite elementary schools. Up to four buses will be assigned to each site. The Canyons School District Transportation Department in mid-July will mail letters to parents with specifics.
