A: Last year, Utah's high school seniors lost out on $45.5 million in free money for college because they didn’t complete a FAFSA, or Free Application for Federal Student Aid. But this year, it’s easier than ever to complete the online application, because families can start now—three months earlier than usual—and they can use their prior year’s taxes. What’s more, there’s an unprecedented amount of money available, a whopping $180 billion. Yes, that’s billion with a "B." Think you won’t qualify for needs-based aid? It’s still a good idea to complete a FAFSA, because at many colleges, it’s required in order to access academic scholarships, grants, loans and work-study opportunities. To help spread the word so that all students can take advantage of this historic investment in financial aid, schools throughout Utah are holding free FAFSA completion fairs. Here are the dates and time for fairs in Canyons District, which are open to all students, regardless of where they attend school:

Answer: Yes. Children will not go hungry in Canyons District schools. Regardless of their ability to pay, children will receive food. Prices are reasonable for a meal in CSD cafeterias. The cost of breakfast is 90 cents for elementary school students and $1.10 for middle and high school students. The cost of a lunchtime meals is $1.75 at elementaries and $2 at middle schools and high schools, although there are ala carte menu items that students can select if they don’t want a full meal. Also, we have in-class breakfast programs at Midvale, Sandy, Copperview, and East Midale elementary schools. At those schools, students receive breakfast at their desks before learning starts for the day. Parents do not have to apply for this service; it’s provided free of charge to all enrolled students. However, parents can apply to qualify for free- or reduced-priced lunches either online or at their child’s school. An answer to an online application submitted at www.schoollunchapp.com will be returned in 24 hours. Answers to hard-copy applications that are obtained at schools can take up to 10 days to receive. If you are earning at or below Income Eligibility Guidelines, we encourage you to fill out an application. The school will process your application and issue an eligibility determination. If you are receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, your child automatically qualifies for free school meals.
Answer: Utah schools are open-enrollment, meaning that children may enroll in schools other than those assigned to them by geographic boundaries, as long as there is room at the school. You may apply for an out-of-boundary permit at the schools where you would like your children to attend.

Answer:. Look for the button on the website that says “See All Job Postings.”  Simply follow the links to all the available jobs. Applications can be submitted online or they can be brought to the Canyons Administration Building-East, 9361 S. 300 East.
Answer: If you go to the Home Page, you’ll see the word “Resources.” Click on that word.  You’ll be directed to a page called “Parents and Community.”  This is an alphabetized list of items on our website in which parents may be interested.  Go to “Bell Schedules,” and the start and end times of our schools can be found there.

Question: Who is my child’s principal?

Answer:   Click on “Schools” at the very top of the Home Page, right next to “Resources.”  Then, click on elementary schools, middle schools, high schools or specialty schools.  A list will appear of all the schools.  Find the school for which you’re interested and click on the name. 
Answer:  Look for an icon of a school bus on the top right of the Home Page. Click on the words “Bus Routes and Eligibility.” You should be able to find what you are looking for by typing in your address. 
Answer:   On Wednesday, May 4, Canyons is hosting a class called “SCC 101.”  This workshop is for new SCC members or those who want to know more about serving on a community council.  The training will be at 6:30 p.m. in the Professional Development Center of CAB-East.
