National School Lunch Week

October 11-15, 2010 is National School Lunch Week! The theme for this year's school lunch week is "School Lunch-What's on your Tray?" This theme helps students learn that eating a healthy and nutritious school lunch is essential to help them get the most out of your action-packed day! This week is a great opportunity to see what school lunch has to offer, try eating school lunch to get the balanced, nutritious meal that the body needs to be healthy and strong!

October is a new month, check out the Harvest of the Month Newsletters on our website to find the answers to these questions and more. The newsletters provide interesting facts, recipes, and fun activities for the kids to do to get them involved and learning more about fruits and vegetables.

Harvest of the Month Newsletters

Canyons is proud to bring you the Harvest of the Month Newsletters! We are excited to have the newsletters apart of our Harvest of the Month Program. Each month a different fruit and vegetable are highlighted, to increase the students, faculty, parents and communities awareness of the benefits of eating fruits and vegetables.

Take a look at the newletters under the Nutrition Newsletter tab on the Nutrition Services website.
As many of you already know, we are constantly working to improve the nutrition within the schools of the District. Furthermore, we are not only trying to improve the nutrition quality, but also educate students, employess and even parents on the value and benefits of a healthy diet.

In a recent interview with ABC 4, Nutrition Services Director, Sebasthian Varas explained "Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day and gives the children the energy they need to start off the day."
