New School year, new regulations

We are excited for the new school year to starts. Students laughing and playing is always a joy for us in Nutrition Services. One way that we make sure our students are having a good experience at school is providing them with a nutritious meal. Starting July 2, 2012 the Healthier Hunger Free Act that was signed by President Obama was put in place. That regulation requires students who participate in the School Lunch Program to take either a fruit and/or a vegetable in order to be in compliance with the regulations. As a district, we are excited to see that students will be consuming more fruits and vegetables. It has been well documented that fruits and vegetables help decrease the prevelance of diseases. We encourage you to have your students try school lunch this year, and see how great they will feel after receiving a healthy balanced meal.
